Backstory
Elliot is the first and only child of the von Schwarzstein family. His parents are minor nobles without crests. When they found out that Elliot possesses a Crest they saw it as an opportunity to get more influence. They always told him that he has to marry a rich Nobles daughter, so that they could gain power and influence. They didn't care about his feelings and he accepted it. He never really thought about it and only wanted to make his family proud.
Everything he did, was because he wanted to make them proud. He never did anything because it was fun to him. It was his duty.
Once he got older he started to care about those, who had nothing. He bought them new clothes and food, much to the dislike of his parents. He didn't understand why, so he kept helping everyone who needed his help. At some point he found out that his parents only used him. He finally questioned everything they did.
The training he had to go through, all the daughters of noble he had to meet. His parents even tried to arrange a marriage.
At this point he ran away, grabbing everything of value he had. About 2 Months later he enrolled in the Monastery and joined the Black Eagles House.
Post-Timeskip

Shortly after the attack on the Monastery, Elliot headed back to his hometown, making sure that his people are well.
Obviously his parents are glad that he's still alive and they even stop talking about marrying him off, since the war won't give them the possibility to look for a partner for him.
In the first few months Elliot starts to train his own little army, recruiting volunteers from close by villages, as well as recruiting soldiers and mercenaries to support Edelgards cause.
Elliot was part of most greater battles, only suffering minor casualties and barely any wounds. The only noticeable wound is a scar that he got when he fought a commander from Faerghus.
Most of the time he either spent training more soldiers or studying spells. He was always interested in history from other places and even managed to recreate several spells from long gone times, as well as creating his own spell.
Although he knew that he shouldn't do it, he still kept in touch with old classmates through letters, hoping that he didn't have to fight them at all.
